According to The Teesside Gazette, Leeds United are interested in signing Middlesbrough forward Ashley Fletcher on loan during this summer’s transfer window.
Leeds boss Paul Heckingbottom had Fletcher on loan at Barnsley, and is believed to be interested in bringing the 22-year-old to Elland Road at the end of the season.
Fletcher joined Middlesbrough from West Ham United last summer, and only managed two goals in 19 appearances for the club before moving to Sunderland on loan in January.
The former Manchester United youngster has only netted once in 14 Championship games for the Black Cats, and is expected to be made surplus to requirements this summer.
Leeds are in desperate need of some firepower entering the 2018-19 campaign, but it would be fair to say that the club’s supporters are against the idea of Fletcher moving to the club, despite the West Ham fans being unhappy when the forward left London last summer.
A selection of the Twitter reaction in relation to the transfer rumour can be seen below:
"Current Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom is a big fan of Ashley Fletcher and would likely show an interest if Boro make the striker available for loan again in the summer."
