Leeds fans attack club after Heckingbottom comments

Leeds fans have been reacting to manager Paul Heckingbottom’s frank assessment of the club’s poor form.

Heckingbottom’s side were completely outplayed against Wolves on Wednesday night, with two goals from corners making matters easy for the visitors before the break.

A lapse in judgement from 21 year-old goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell let Benik Afobe cap off the night’s misery with a third, meaning the home side have now lost 3-0 twice in the space of five days.

Heckingbottom has had a torrid time since taking over at Elland Road, and an ineffective January transfer window has shown with results on the pitch.

Leeds have now lost seven of their last twelve, winning just once in that period. This leaves the club limping along in 13th, and with no signs of turning it around.

“It’s an indication of where we are. This is where we’re at. If we want to be a team at the top of the league or competing for top-six places, we’re short,” Heckingbottom said on Wednesday night.

“The disappointing this is that when Wolves were at their best, and they’re a good team, they never scored from their opportunities. We conceded from two set-plays and a long ball over the top. But that’s been evident throughout the season.”

The manager seems to have accepted what most fans accepted quite some time ago, that a playoff push is not going to happen this season. Leeds simply don’t have the quality that several other clubs pushing for those places have.

Some fans have sympathised with Heckingbottom, most are putting the blame on Victor Orta’s recruitment, while a few are happy to dilute the pain by seeing the funny side of things.
