Reported Leeds United target Abel Hernandez announced his exit from Championship rivals Hull City on his official Instagram account on Saturday night, and Whites fans believe that a deal for him to join them is almost complete.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported in May that the 6ft 1in tall Uruguay international is the managerless club’s top striker target, and he will now be available on a free when his contract at the KCOM Stadium expires at the end of this month after he confirmed he wouldn’t be extending his deal.
Despite an injury-hit 2017/18 campaign, the 27-year-old showed how prolific he can be at this level with eight goals in 10 league appearances, and his signing would be a huge coup for the Yorkshire outfit as they look to return to the Premier League next season.
Leeds supporters, who remain unconvinced about a 62-year-old replacing Paul Heckingbottom as their new boss, were quick to have their say on the message from Hernandez via social media, and while one said “welcome to Leeds”, another said “we know what this means Leeds fans”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
