Leeds fans discuss Mark Viduka 19 years after they signed him

19 years ago last weekend, Leeds signed a certain Mark Viduka. The rest, as they say, is history.

In the summer of 2000, they agreed a deal in the region of £6m to snap him from Celtic’s grasp, bringing him to Yorkshire in a stay that would last four years of nearly non-stop goals.

The Australian is clearly held in high regard around the club and that was exemplified by the respect shown by certain fans on Twitter.

Reacting to a thread posted by one supporter on the anniversary of him signing, it sparked quite the reaction after it was claimed he was the best striker to don the white of Leeds.

In response, one fan expressed that Viduka was better than Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink whilst another hailed his finishing ability in front of goal.

A further individual suggested the best football of his career was played at Leeds as he was branded a top striker.

The forward scored 68 times for the Whites in the four seasons he spent at Elland Road, playing a total of 158 matches.

And despite it now being 15 years since he was at the club, it appears as though fans still absolutely love him.

Here’s what they’ve been saying.
