Leeds fans downbeat despite points record edging closer

Leeds fans have taken a rather pessimistic view to the news that they could yet break the club’s record for points in a single season.

Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post wrote an article about the impending feat, chronicling Leeds’ best ever points tallies since the switch to three points for a win.

Bielsa’s team currently sit second in Leeds United history after amassing 76 points this season, just nine short of Howard Wilkinson’s title-winning 1989-90 team who won 85 points.

With seven games to go in the season, the Whites need just three wins and a draw to break the record and create history.

A tally of 86 points may not be enough to secure promotion to the Premier League as Sheffield United breathe down Leeds’ necks – last season 88 points was only good enough for third place for Fulham so Leeds may have to smash their record points haul if they are to go up automatically.
