English fans watched on as the enigmatic Diego Simeone won another trophy for Atletico Madrid on Thursday, and Leeds fans are all making the same joke.
Atletico Madrid beat Marseille 3-0 on Wednesday night to claim the Europa League for the third time since 2010.
The Spanish side looked completely comfortable for the entirety of the match, as two goals from Antoine Griezmann helped them on the way to Simeone’s sixth major trophy as Atletico boss.
The electric Argentine has his Atletico team extremely well drilled, but Leeds fans aren’t convinced he’s better than their very own Paul Heckingbottom (warning – sarcasm ahead).
Heckingbottom replaced Thomas Christiansen in February, and his Leeds side have won just four times since taking over, and two of those wins came when the season was virtually finished anyway.
What’s more alarming than the lack of results though is the lack of performances, as Heckingbottom doesn’t seem to have left any lasting imprint on the side, or improved any of the players at his disposal, with the exception of young goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Most fans would be happy to see the back of the former Barnsley man, and they’re having a joke at his expense after the Europa League final, saying he’s much better than the incredible Simeone.
