Leeds marked new boss Marcelo Bielsa’s first competitive match in charge with a 3-1 home win over relegated side Stoke City and the Whites fans on Twitter were buzzing with the result and the performance.
Leeds announced the signing of striker Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough last week for £7m, but the new man was an unused substitute at Elland Road as Kemar Roofe shone upfront. The 25-year-old didn’t give the Stoke defence a seconds rest and rightly received the Man of the Match award.
Roofe got his chance to impress Bielsa from the start after Leeds’ very public hunt for a striker over the summer led them to Bamford. Roofe did net 14 goals in all competitions last season so has proven he can be an effective striker and although he didn’t find the back of the net against Stoke, he certainly put the pressure on the expensive new signing.
His performance left Leeds fans on Twitter buzzing, but also worrying for their new signing’s spot in the side. Check out some of the best reactions below.
Coops…… outstanding. Capped off with a well deserved goal. Roofe…. played out of his skin and caused no end of problems. Saiz…. amazing first half and the through ball for the goal exquisite….. but MOTM for me was Klich ?? #lufc

Rumours are that Roofe is running down the M62 trying to close down Shawcross on the Stoke bus… #lufc

Thinks it’s fair to say Stoke just got Bielsa’d. Thought Roofe was the pick of the bunch but not a single bad performer. Seems the players have really bought in to this style and long may it continue.

Roofe was class today, Bamford has got a job on just matching his work rate! #lufc

Actually gutted we didn't get to see Patrick Bamford come on for Leeds today, paying £7m for a striker is a lot, with Kemar Roofe doing well i think we could see Bamford on the bench a few times this season #lufc #mot

Not sure who was MOTM but for me it was Kemar Roofe. Unbelievable work rate. Left it all out on the field and deserves all the praise he’ll get. COME ON LEEDS! #LUFC

Roofe has given Bamford the benchmark today. #lufc

Kemar Roofe easily MOTM. I spent long periods of that game just staring at him – the sheer amount of work he got through was incredible. #lufc
