According to reports in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United see former Chivas boss Matias Almeyda as a back-up option to Marcelo Bielsea if they fail to appoint the Argentine as Paul Heckingbottom’s successor, and Whites fans have been quick to react.
The negotiations with the former Argentina and Chile national team coach continue to drag on, and it appears as though owner Andrea Radrizzani is ensuring he has a plan in place if he can’t bring the 62-year-old to Elland Road, with Almeyda one of two potential alternatives according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The former Lazio midfielder has left the Mexican outfit having won 58 of his 133 matches in charge, losing 37 and scoring 189 goals, as per Transfermarkt.

Leeds supporters, who have urged the club to keep hold of one of their 5ft 10in teenage talents, took to social media to give their thoughts on the 44-year-old potentially being their back-up option to Bielsa, and while one said “if Bielsa reads this he won’t sign”, another said “I think Almeyda would be better in the long-term”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
If bielsa reads this he wont sign, surely hes going to want to think the club only want him and not looking at other options?

Becoming farcical now Phil.

A Bielsa disciple. Makes sense. Then again, maybe bring him in as Bielsa's assistant and heir apparent ?

He wasn’t sacked for bad results tho. The equivalent of Orta there didn’t like him.
I think Almeyda would be better in the long term, he tends to promote lots of youngsters while Bielsa is more of a short term manager (flops after 18 months or so)

If Almeyda is a plan B, he’s a pretty good one looking at his stats as a coach. He could be the answer!

No. This would be another punt and a poor 2nd choice to Bielsa.
