Leeds fans react as Phil Hay says club want Ryan Kent to replace Kemar Roofe

Reliable Leeds United insider Phil Hay has told a fan on Twitter that the club want Liverpool winger Ryan Kent to replace Kemar Roofe as he closes in on a move to Anderlecht, and Whites supporters have been quick to react.

Hay provided an update on the 26-year-old on Monday, saying that he was in Belgium for a medical with Vincent Kompany’s men, and was then asked whether the Yorkshire outfit would look to bring in a successor to last season’s top marksman.

The Athletic journalist responded by saying United want Kent from the Reds, which is confusing in many ways given he has tended to play out wide during his career to date.

Of course, Roofe was a winger when he first arrived at Elland Road before being successfully converted into a striker, and perhaps Marcelo Bielsa’s plan is to do the same with Kent.

However, Leeds certainly have plenty of competition in wide areas already with Helder Costa, Jack Harrison, Pablo Hernandez, Jack Clarke and Ezgjan Alioski all in contention, whereas Patrick Bamford would be left as the only senior centre-forward.

While he did find the net against Bristol City on Sunday, he has concerned supporters previously.

It is a situation that has left many Whites fans confused, with more than one responding to Hay’s transfer claim with a similar message explaining that he isn’t a striker.
