Leeds fans select Neal Maupay as striker they would want to replace Kemar Roofe

Lots of Leeds United fans on Twitter have picked Brentford’s Neal Maupay as the striker they would like to see signed if the Anderlecht-linked Kemar Roofe leaves before the deadline.

A report in The Daily Mail late on Thursday night said that the Belgian club were lining up a £7m offer for the Whites attacker, with reliable insider Phil Hay backing that up by saying Vincent Kompany’s men’s interest in him is “serious”.

Given the 26-year-old was the Yorkshire outfit’s top goalscorer last season despite being reduced to just 32 Championship appearances because of injury tells you how important he is, and the void that would need to be filled by his departure.

If they are looking for a proven player at this level then they could choose to make a move for Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle, who scored 23 goals in 39 league games in England’s second tier in 2018/19 whilst on loan with West Bromwich Albion.

He is a player that plenty of Leeds supporters called on to be signed earlier this summer, but now it appears many would prefer Maupay instead should they lose Roofe to Belgium.

The Frenchman netted 25 goals for the Bees during the previous campaign, and is valued at £20m by the west London club according to a recent report by Sky Sports linking him with Brighton and Hove Albion.
