Leeds fans split over bargain move for Mbakogu

Leeds fans are split on the latest news about Jerry Mbakogu, after reports suggested they could sign the striker for as little as €1.8m (£1.6m).

According to Italian reports, Leeds have negotiated the price for Mbakogu all the way down to a bargain price under €2m.

The club has been linked with moves for the Nigerian striker dating back to Paul Heckingbottom’s reign, and fans were annoyed by what they felt was just another Caleb Ekuban.

The 25 year-old scored just eight times last season, and one of the biggest issues under Heckingbottom was the lack of a proper goalscorer.

The reduced price has now got plenty of fans feeling perhaps it’s not such a bad move though, so long as they bring in a proven goalscorer alongside the 6 ft 1 striker.

Mbakogu has grabbed 28 goals in 92 league appearances for Carpi since joining permanently in 2014, and he does have the physical tools to be a success in the Championship.

Lots of fans are getting on board with a bargain move, but others are still annoyed by their club’s apparent insistence on shopping in the bargain bin.
