According to Football Insider, Sheffield United are set to seal a move for Everton’s Kieran Dowell, with the attacking midfielder apparently close to agreeing terms – therein Leeds have already made a huge January transfer window blunder.
Well, Football Insider reports that Blades boss Chris Wilder is in pole position to add the Toffees youngster to his ranks in January as he looks to add some creativity ahead of the second half of the season and their promotion charge.
Meanwhile, Leeds are set to lose Samu Saiz as the midfielder has agreed to join Getafe on loan for the remainder of the campaign when the the transfer window opens, meaning that Pablo Hernandez is the only quality attacking midfielder available to Marcelo Bielsa – so the boss will surely regret letting Dowell slip through his fingers.
Hernandez is into his twilight years now and surely cannot continue to deliver the goods for the Whites should they get promoted to the Premier League – the Spaniard previously struggled in the top flight with Swansea.
The 21-year-old was very impressive on loan for Nottingham Forest last season, where he chalked up an impressive ten goals and five assists as he became a key player for the Reds.
Leeds currently sit top of the Championship and will be hoping to cement their place in the standings as we near the beginning of the second half of the season but, with the loss of Saiz, the Peacocks’ ability to create has been reduced and the fact that Dowell looks set to join one of their closest promotion rivals is a disaster.
WhoScored lists the Everton academy graduate’s key passes as ‘very strong’, while his long-shots, crossing and dribbling are also among his strengths. Bielsa should have his head in his hands as this kind of all-round attacking midfielder play is missing from his ranks as Pablo Hernandez and Mateusz Klich are their only real creators at present.
