Leeds’ Pablo Hernandez return didn’t go to plan

Leeds United fans have a lot to be worried about after their 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Not only did the Whites lose, but they were beaten at home in a game that they seemed to have a foothold in.

Indeed, United were once again dominating possession, but they couldn’t convert it into chances as they failed to find the net at Elland Road.

It was clear that Leeds were struggling creatively, but luckily they seemed to have the perfect remedy on the bench.

With Leeds dominating the ball, but not being able to create all that many chances, Marcelo Bielsa rolled the dice by introducing Pablo Hernandez into the encounter on 65 minutes. This came after just two key passes from Stuart Dallas and Helder Costa.

The Spaniard had been sidelined for a few weeks with an injury that he’d picked up against Fulham, but Bielsa knew that his two-time Player of the Year could be the key to unlocking the opposition.

However, it didn’t quite work out as the Argentine had hoped.

Off the bench

With 25 minutes of the match to go, a fresh-legged Hernandez should have been able to take the clash by the scruff of the neck.

However, he didn’t really look at his best on the day.

Adam Forshaw

How much did Leeds pay to sign Adam Forshaw from Middlesbrough?

He didn’t have much time to make an impact, but he was pretty much a non-entity after coming on apart from making one key pass.

He failed to have a shot at goal, he didn’t complete a single dribble and a fifth of his passes didn’t find their mark.

The Spaniard looked as if he’d been on the pitch for the whole match rather than being an impact sub. Perhaps he’s still feeling the impact of the injury he picked up against Fulham after returning two weeks earlier than anticipated. However, whatever the problem was, Leeds will be hoping that it doesn’t affect him for too long.

In other news, Danny Pugh has shown excitement about one of Angus Kinnear’s big plans for Leeds United.
