Leeds United journalist says Kiko Casilla looked broken after Brentford game

A lot has been made of Leeds United’s mentality lately.

Fans, professionals and journalists have all had their say on the Whites’ problems at the moment, and the general consensus is that they’re struggling.

One man who certainly is having problems on the pitch is Kiko Casilla.

The goalie has made dreadful errors in each of his last three games, and one journalist suggested that his head has gone after his most recent blunder.

Phil Hay spotted the goalkeeper after the Brentford match, and his comments on his body language don’t sound too good.

What’s been said then?

The journalist was discussing Casilla’s recent woes on the latest edition of The Phil Hay Show.

He stated that he felt sorry for the goalkeeper and that the Spaniard himself looked down about the situation.

“I say this all the time, I feel desperately sorry for Casilla, because if you look at his body language he is not enjoying this, and he is not going home and saying ‘well I’m still getting paid 35 grand a week, so what does it matter?’

“I saw him signing autographs afterwards at Brentford, as I was coming out and he did look a bit broken you know, you could tell that he was signing these, and he was apologetic without saying sorry to people, you could see it in the air around him,” Hay said (The Phil Hay Show 14/2/20 16:10).

Worrying or positive?

There are a couple of ways in which you can interpret these comments.

You could see it being the end of Casilla – his confidence looks shot and he needs some time out of the team, and that view would be understandable after his recent woes.

On the other hand, you could see this as a positive in that he genuinely cares about what is happening on the pitch, and be comforted by the knowledge that he will try to make up for the errors he has made in recent weeks.

What scoreline does this iconic Leeds image belong to?

Either way, it’s not nice to see any player in such a state after a match, and we can only hope that he bounces back this weekend.

In other news, Marcelo Bielsa was way off the mark with some of his post-match comments this week.
