Leeds may have the perfect Kalvin Phillips successor in their ranks

Leeds United’s academy has produced a few impressive names over the past decade or so, with the likes of Fabian Delph and Lewis Cook going on to become England internationals, and they may have another one on their hands.

Nohan Kenneh was called up to England U17 duty earlier this week, much to the delight of the Elland Road faithful, and he looks like he could be one of the players to potentially become Kalvin Phillips’ long-term successor.

Kenneh is already playing way beyond his years, regularly appearing for Carlos Corberan’s U23 side despite being just 17 years of age.

Much like Phillips, the teenager can be deployed as either a midfielder or a centre-back, and his description of himself should excite every Leeds supporter.

Indeed, when Kenneh was once asked to describe his playstyle he replied:

“I would say that I am aggressive and hard-working who likes to break down play. I also like getting forward and scoring from range.”

Does that remind you of anyone currently in the Leeds squad? Of course it does.

The 17-year-old has pretty much perfectly described the Yorkshire Pirlo’s style of play. Phillips has won a considerable 2.9 tackles per game in the Championship this term and his aggressive nature is incredibly similar to Kenneh.

It shouldn’t come to the surprise of anyone that the youngster has named the Leeds talisman as one of his footballing idols, alongside Patrick Vieira, who he models his game on.

How many times have Leeds United won the FA Cup?

“I have an eye for few professional players but none could compare themselves to the legend Patrick Vieira. He happens to be the man that has captured my admiration with his electrifying displays on the football pitch.

“The way he plays and the precision at which he passes the ball is absolutely spectacular,” Kenneh writes on his official website.

“I love the way he handles the ball and I have tried to model my style of play after him and emulate his character.”

The holding midfield spot is so important in Marcelo Bielsa’s system, and with rumours continuously circulating about Phillips’ future, the Whites may need a plan in place when the day comes that the 24-year-old moves on.

Fortunately, it seems as though they’ve got the perfect replacement already in their ranks.

In other news, Leeds fans have been buzzing after one club tweet.
