Leeds United could be active in the January transfer market if the latest remarks from The Athletic’s Phil Hay are to be believed as he claims three different positions could be high on the agenda.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are entering the new year, and the new decade, sitting top of the Championship table following an enthralling 5-4 victory at Birmingham City.
They’ll face their nearest challengers, West Bromwich Albion, in just a few days time to kickstart 2020, meaning there’s a possibility that they could open up a three-point cushion in first place.

There has been plenty of talk ahead of next month as the transfer window reopens, will Leeds do business? won’t they? Hay’s comments following Saturday’s game certainly hints towards them being rather active, he said:
“What I’m told, it’ll be a striker if Nketiah goes, a winger to replace Clarke and potentially an experienced keeper to sit on the bench behind Meslier if Casilla picks up a racism ban. They won’t be season-changing signings, I don’t think.”
Leeds were top at Christmas last season and faltered during the final run-in becoming the only team this decade to not earn promotion from the Championship from such a position.
Bielsa’s job will be to ensure that doesn’t happen again, even more so considering the position they are in going into the new year – there’s a nine-point margin to those outside of the automatic spots.
If Eddie Nketiah is indeed recalled back to Arsenal, Leeds will only really have one senior striker to call upon so that could quickly become a cause for concern while Jack Clarke’s clause has already been enacted, meaning there’s a need for a wide player, although the chances of it being Jarrod Bowen have been quashed a long time ago.
Hay also suggests that a goalkeeper will be needed with Kiko Casilla’s looming suspension surely on the horizon.
