Leeds’ potential move for Romaine Sawyers could make Jansson deal look better

According to reports from Football Insider, Leeds United are in the running to sign Romaine Sawyers from Brentford.

This would be the second time in this transfer window that the Yorkshire do business with the Bees, and it should be a move which sees a number of fans happier than they were with the original deal for Jansson.

What’s the story?

Celtic have already had a £2m bid knocked back for the midfielder, whom the west London club reportedly want £2.5m for. If Leeds can land him for that much they would still be getting a brilliant deal.

Not only would they be getting a great Championship player who provided six assists last season, they would be able to get the fanbase back on side as it makes the sale of the Swede look much better.

Jansson’s departure

Fans were furious about the club’s decision to sell the defender for a fee that could eventually reach £5.5m, but if Leeds can get Sawyers for the £2.5m he is valued at it looks much better.

Rather than seeing it as receiving £5.5m for Jansson, Leeds fans can view the sale as £3m plus Sawyers, which isn’t a bad deal at all.

Some supporters on social media have already taken this stance as they were much happier about Jansson’s departure after the Sawyers links emerged.

The 27-year-old has already shown that he’s a brilliant talent in the Championship with 17 assists in three seasons, and he adds some much-needed depth to the midfield.

If the original deal for Jansson was £3m and Sawyers then it’s hard to say that Leeds fans would have reacted in the way they did, as they have been buzzing about the potential arrival of the St Kitts and Nevis international on social media on Friday.
