According to German media outlet Bild, Leeds United are interested in signing Hoffenheim winger Steven Zuber this month, and Marcelo Bielsa should completely transform his side’s attack if he does sign the 27-year-old by also bringing his Switzerland teammate Albian Ajeti to Elland Road.
Well, even though the Argentine manager has remained largely non-committal when he has been asked about potential business the Yorkshire outfit could do this summer, it appears clear that the squad does need freshening up in some areas despite the fact they are currently topping the Championship table.
Back-to-back league defeats for the first time under the 63-year-old is testament to that fact, while the loss of Samu Saiz to Getafe means that the Whites don’t have a plethora of quality in central areas behind the striker, or on the flanks in all truth despite the emergence of Jack Clarke.
While goalkeeper and centre-back could well be priority positions for Bielsa to take a look at before the deadline, adding Zuber and another quality striker to compete with Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford could be the key to ensuring they stay in the top two for the remainder of the campaign.
While Zuber has shown his quality for club and country previously, Ajeti has been in fine form this term and played against England at Wembley back in November.
The 21-year-old has not only shown his prowess in front of goal with 12 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions for Basel so far this season, as per Transfermarkt, but he has also shown that he has a creative touch as well by laying on a further seven assists.
The centre-forward has that clinincal finishing touch and has plenty of potential to improve even further, and he would freshen up a Leeds attack that needs to keep in form if Bielsa’s men are to win a long-awaited promotion.
