Leeds should try for Andreas Pereira this summer

Leeds United should make an attempt to sign Andreas Pereira from Manchester United if they are promoted at the end of the season.

What’s the word, then?

It is probably time for Pereira to leave United on a permanent basis.

The midfielder has long been a favourite of the United supporters, who were disappointed to see him depart on loan last season.

Pereira returned to Old Trafford last summer following his loan at Valencia and started the 2018-19 Premier League season in Jose Mourinho’s first XI.

The Brazil international fell out of favour fairly quickly, however, as he struggled to really leave his mark in the middle of the midfield.

Pereira’s contract will expire at the end of the season, although United do have the option of a 12-month extension.

Either way, it does not appear that the playmaker has a long-term future with the Red Devils and Leeds should make an ambitious attempt to land the 23-year-old if they are promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Why should Leeds move for Pereira?

There is no question that the South American is a classy operator.

He has been used in two of United’s last four Premier League matches and also played the full 90 minutes against Reading in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Capable of playing in a number of different midfield positions, Pereira certainly has the credentials to be a huge asset to Leeds in the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa might well be able to get the best out of his fellow South American, meanwhile, when considering what the 63-year-old has already achieved during his time at Elland Road.

There will be a number of clubs closely monitoring developments surrounding Pereira, but Leeds should certainly make an attempt to land an individual who could yet become the player that he perhaps should be.
