Last night, Leeds United continued their march towards the Premier League with a solid 2-0 win over promotion rivals Reading at Elland Road.
Following a dismal start to the season that had many fearing from Garry Monk’s job, the Whites have taken 31 points from the last possible 45 – including three last night when Jaap Stam’s Royals came to town.
Star striker Chris Wood opened the scoring in the 19th minute but worryingly hobbled off just a quarter of an hour later.
That limited the Yorkshire outfit’s cutting edge but they still managed to extend their lead in second-half stoppage time via a Souleyman Doukara penalty, which eradicated any doubt of Leeds not claiming a deserved win.
The Whites are now fifth in the Championship table, eight points away from the automatic promotion spots. Clearly feeling the optimism surrounding Elland Road at the moment, Leeds’ players – and manager Garry Monk – expressed their delight with the win on Twitter.
