Usually all fans have to deal with during the January transfer window is major squad overhaul at their clubs, but Leeds United have gone one step further today and changed a major part of the team’s identity.
After six months of research, the Elland Road side have unveiled a new club crest for the eleventh time in their history.
6 months of research
10,000 people consulted
Ready for the next 100 years
— Leeds United (@LUFC) January 24, 2018
It’s a huge change from what came before with the club claiming it “depicts the ‘Leeds Salute’, which over the decades has been an expression of the passion that connects Leeds United’s fans and players on and off the pitch and all over the world.”
They also say they consulted 10,000 fans before deciding to go with the new design.
However, supporters aren’t happy and the reaction has been fierce on social media today with many absolutely hating the change.
Some can barely believe it, while others are suggesting the 10,000 fans must have been from rival clubs.
They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all..
surely a gag? Looks like the remnants of a Soviet propaganda leaflet.

10,000 Huddersfield fans consulted ? Dreadful.

It's awful. Did you consult real, long standing fans? Or have a bunch of young marketing people been asked to second guess what we would like to see as our new crest (for the next 100 years?) Please rethink this!

I’m sorry but that doesn’t represent #lufc
You haven’t consulted the right people on this.
And it’s a disgrace for our Centenary next year!!

Honestly, this is an absolutely shambolic effort. I feel nothing but anguish when I look at that badge. Doesn’t capture the spirit and pride of #lufc in any way, shape or form. I’m actually embarrassed for you @andrearadri .

It’s atrocious. All that ‘research’ and that’s the best you can come up with?! It looks like something from Pro Evolution Soccer in the early 2000s. Awful!!
