Leeds will be making a mistake if they fail to sign Cameron Jerome on loan

According to Yorkshire Evening Post’s Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay on Twitter, the club aren’t interested in signing Derby County striker Cameron Jerome despite Football Insider claiming they were interested.

What’s the word, then?

Well, a report by Football Insider claimed that the Yorkshire club were keen to beat Championship rivals Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers to sign the 32-year-old on loan having been made aware of his availability.

Football Insider added that Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa still wants to strengthen his attacking options despite a positive start to the campaign, in order to provide some competition for Kemar Roofe and new boy Patrick Bamford up top.

However, the reliable Hay says that the story isn’t true for a centre-forward that only joined Derby during the January transfer window, but he has found himself down the pecking order following the summer arrivals of Jack Marriott and Martyn Waghorn at the iPro Stadium.

Are they right to ignore Jerome?

No they aren’t and Bielsa, who must sign a versatile Crystal Palace outcast on loan to boost their promotion push, could be making a huge error that comes back to haunt him.

While Leeds have made a brilliant start to the campaign, they can’t afford to get too complacent and having lost so many forwards and strikers over the summer with only Bamford arriving at Elland Road, they look to need another body up top.

Jerome probably wouldn’t be a regular fixture in the starting XI for the Yorkshire outfit, but he is experienced at this level and knows what is needed to be a success, and he would be a great option off of the substitutes’ bench for them.

If Roofe and Bamford were both absent at any stage, he would be a reliable option to deputise and he would likely thrive on the support he could receive from the likes of Samu Saiz.
