Leeds would kill two birds with one stone with loan deal for Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu

Leeds United have made an outstanding start to the new season with three wins out of three in all competitions to suggest they don’t need any more signings, but they could improve their squad even further with a loan deal for exciting Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Marcelo Bielsa has got his Whites career off to the perfect start with the brilliant wins against fellow Championship promotion contenders as well as a Carabao Cup win over Bolton Wanderers, largely using the players that fell away after a decent start last term.

There is certainly a feel-good factor around Elland Road right now, but they shouldn’t get too complacent and can still use the loan window to improve their squad even further and boost their chances of finishing in the top six minimum at the end of the campaign.

Centre-back and defensive midfield look to be two positions in particular that potentially need more quality and depth right now.

Why should they sign Ampadu?

While the 17-year-old has already made seven appearances for Chelsea despite his tender years, he looks to be way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge under Maurizio Sarri this term.

With David Luiz back in favour and the Italian boss preferring a standard back four rather than three central defenders, the young Welshman’s first-team opportunities could be few and far between.

A loan move would certainly benefit the teenager and his parent club, and the fact that he can play as either a centre-back or defensive midfielder mean that he would be an ideal signing for Leeds, to either line up at the heart of the defence or cover the impressive Kalvin Phillips when needed.
