Danny Murphy’s comments show the contrast between Leeds and Arsenal

Leeds United may not have beaten Arsenal on Monday evening, but the Whites made a great account of themselves.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side showed everything that has made them one of the Championship’s best sides over the past 18 months, amassing more shots and more possession than the Gunners.

As a consequence, they earned plaudits from those watching the game.

What’s been said then?

Danny Murphy and Guy Mowbray were commentating on BBC One’s coverage of Arsenal vs Leeds (6/1/20 7:30pm)

Mowbray was in awe of Leeds after 11 minutes of action.

“If you were beamed down and told that this was Premier League against Championship you might be thinking it’s the other way around right now,” he said.

Murphy was quick to make excuses for the Gunners though.

“To be fair to Arsenal they’ve had some monumental games recently, and they’ve used a lot of effort and energy into those games. It’s very difficult to repeat that after such a good win against Manchester United,” said the former Fulham captain.

Contrast in clubs

Arsenal may be the Premier League club in this tie, but of the two sides, they’re the one without any direction.

How many times have Leeds United won the FA Cup?

Murphy making excuses for the London club against Championship opposition sums up everything wrong with Mikel Arteta’s outfit at the moment.

These are footballers paid thousands of pounds every week, so producing a performance five days after beating Manchester United shouldn’t be too difficult.

Leeds had a gruelling game on New Year’s Day as well as they drew with West Brom, and their festive period has been just as busy as Arsenal’s, so there’s no way that Murphy’s comments are a genuine excuse.

Bielsa had his team prepared for this game, but the Gunners looked shell shocked when Leeds came out to attack them.

These are two clubs with differing fortunes over the past 15 years, but at the moment only one team has a true vision of what they want to be.

In other news, Leeds fans were left in awe of one man after their game against Arsenal.
