Opinion: Bielsa must make a January loan move for Liverpool prospect Adam Lewis

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa will surely need to make additions to his small squad in January, and a loan move for Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis would provide the perfect defensive cover.

What’s the situation?

Leeds are currently second in the Championship table, just two points behind Sheffield United, after Bielsa’s side drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest in controversial circumstances last Saturday.

In the clash, full-back Luke Ayling suffered a knee injury that will see him miss the next two months of action as Leeds look to continue their push for promotion, and although he should be back in January, Bielsa should be looking to bring in at least one more defender in the winter transfer window.

The Argentine boss has been known throughout his career for wanting to work with a small group of players, but it is clear that the huge demands of the Championship are taking their toll on the squad, and a move for Liverpool man Lewis would benefit all parties right now.

First-team football

Goal recently reported that Liverpool’s current back-up at left-back Alberto Moreno would not be given a new contract, allowing him to leave on a free-transfer in the summer of 2019. The Spaniard lost his place to Andrew Robertson last season and in truth has struggled since arriving at Anfield in the summer of 2014.

The report also claimed that German boss Jurgen Klopp had been impressed by the 18-year-old academy prospect in training, and that he would become the understudy to Robertson next season.

Lewis has played 10 games for Liverpool’s U23s so far this season, providing an impressive four assists from left-back as he loves to get forward, but the youngster has never experienced first-team football and so a loan to Leeds, especially with Bielsa at the helm, would be ideal for his development.

So, Leeds fans, would you back a loan move for Lewis in January? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
