Leeds fans now know that attacking midfielder Samu Saiz will join Getafe on an initial loan deal in January, and Marcelo Bielsa should make a move for former Arsenal man Santi Cazorla as his replacement.
Leeds are currently sitting at the top of the Championship table after a fantastic start to Bielsa’s reign, but the latest news on Saiz will surely force him into action during the January transfer window.
Saiz had been with the Whites since the summer of 2017, when he joined from from Spanish side SD Huesca, but the 27-year-old has now returned to his home country and will remain there until the loan deal begins in January, according to BBC Sport.
One player who could fill the void left by the former Real Madrid trainee though is Arsenal legend Santi Cazorla, and Bielsa should make a move in January for the diminutive Spaniard.
The instant reaction to this suggestion may be to think that Cazorla is too old and wouldn’t fit with Bielsa’s system. However, Cazorla is 34-years-old, just one year older than Pablo Hernandez who has been so impressive for the Whites this season.
Adding in the former Arsenal man’s experience would be perfect for Leeds and Cazorla’s composure and ability to dictate games could see him play a deeper role and dictate games in the Championship.
The 5ft 6in midfielder could become a cult hero at Elland Road, as Hernandez has done, and the opportunity to play under Bielsa and challenge for a league title could prove enough to tempt Cazorla from Villarreal in January, despite him only joining in the summer as he signed a one-year deal.
After all his injury problems at Arsenal, it is incredible to see that Cazorla has managed 20 appearances already so far this season, and he could be the perfect replacement for Saiz in West Yorkshire.
So, Leeds fans, would you back a move for the former Arsenal legend in January? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
