Leeds United completed the signing of Pontus Jansson in 2017 for £3.5m following a successful loan spell – with Victor Orta helping to finalise the deal despite not being at the club when the initial move occurred – and he has quickly established himself as one of the Yorkshire outfit’s key players.
While the Sweden international’s best performances arguably came under the leadership of Garry Monk when he partnered Kyle Bartley at the heart of the defence, he has become a real fans’ favourite having created a connection with the Elland Road faithful because of his mentality and committed displays on the pitch.
Even though he found first-team starts hard to come by at the beginning of the campaign having missed out on a chunk of pre-season after appearing for his country at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he has started the previous three league matches for the Championship leaders.
Jansson has been linked with a move away from the club previously, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that Leeds had turned down an offer of £10m from Russian club Krasnodar.
Taking all of this into consideration, we decided to ask United fans to vote on our poll to see how much they think the 27-year-old is worth right now, and a huge 41% selected the option of more than £20m – as you can see from the results below.
Given his qualities and how difficult it appears to be find a reliable centre-back in the modern-day era that is hardly a surprise, and Marcelo Bielsa and Co would be well within their rights hold out that for that amount in the current climate of transfer fees should further interest arrive.
