Leeds fans have been discussing their striker targets for the summer, and an overwhelming majority of fans want to forget Matej Vydra and swoop for Dwight Gayle.
Last week, Leeds fans were extremely annoyed by a report claiming the club had cooled its interest in Vydra.
The club had reportedly been put off by the Czech international’s wage demands, and a deal is now looking unlikely.
One man who could be available as an alternative is Newcastle’s Gayle, as a report from The Chronicle confirmed what everyone already knew, that Newcastle want to sign a marquee number nine this summer.
At 28, it seems rather unlikely that the speedy Englishman would be happy to play second fiddle to a new signing on Tyneside, and his success for the Magpies during their stint in the Championship proved he has what it takes to be Leeds’ new front man.
Gayle is faster than Vydra so could be a better fit for Bielsa’s counter attacking system, and his 23 goals in Newcastle’s lone Championship season is two more than the Derby man grabbed last season.
The Newcastle striker only scored six times in the Premier League last season, but fans would much rather have him than Vydra, as a whopping 76 per cent voted in Gayle’s favour.
