Leeds United youngster Mallik Wilks came on as a late substitute for loan side Doncaster Rovers’ 3-2 win against Rochdale on Saturday that took Grant McCann’s men up to fourth in the League One standings.
The versatile attacker was sent out on a season-long loan deal with the Whites’ Yorkshire neighbours to continue his development, and he has certainly made a positive impression with four goals and three assists in 15 appearances in all competitions for Rovers.
The 19-year-old is certainly faring much better than many of his teammates who were also shipped out on a temporary basis during the summer transfer window, but that didn’t stop McCann providing some questionable quotes last month in which he said he believed the talented teenager “will not ever get a chance at Leeds”.
Given the potential he clearly has and the fact that he can play on either flank – not a position where Marcelo Bielsa has a lot of depth – or as a centre-forward, we at Football FanCast believe that Wilks still has a big role to play for United in the future, and we decided to ask Leeds fans to vote on our poll to see if they thought the same.
A whopping 82% of those who took part believe he still has a role to play – as you can see from the results below.
It will certainly be interesting to see what the club decide to next term, where they currently look to have as much chance of being in the Premier League as they do at remaining in the Championship following a positive start to the campaign.
