Revealed: Three players Leeds fans are desperate for Bielsa to sign this summer

Leeds fans will be hoping that the surprise appointment of Marcelo Bielsa, a man with top managerial experience, will make them more attractive for players looking to head to the West Yorkshire club this summer.

The Sun recently reported that Bielsa’s friendship with Man City boss Pep Guardiola will see the Catalan coach loan four City youngsters to Leeds, including England U21 goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

Bielsa’s reputation comes from managing a number of big European clubs including Marseille, Athletic Bilbao and Lille. The Argentine has also managed his home country and the Chilean national side, leading both teams to a World Cup.

As the 62-year-old looks to build his squad, we asked Leeds fans who they thought their club should sign this summer. Check out the most popular players from our poll here…

3. Matěj Vydra

Last season’s Championship Golden Boot winner Vydra is valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt and has been heavily linked with Leeds this summer, with TEAMtalk recently reporting that Derby have set an £11m price-tag for the Czech international.

Vydra scored 21 goals in 40 Championship games for the Rams last season as they finished 6th, losing their playoff semi-final to Fulham.

2. Kyle Bartley

Kyle Bartley in action for Leeds United

Bartley spent a successful season on loan at Elland Road during 2016/17, appearing in 45 Championship games and chipping in with six goals. It seems clear from our poll that Leeds fans would welcome the 27-year-old back to the club with open arms.

Currently at relegated Swansea, Bartley may look to leave this summer for regular first-team football after starting just nine matches in all competitions last season, although he spent much of the first half of the season out with a knee ligament injury.

1. Abel Hernandez

The man most Leeds fans in our poll wanted to see Bielsa sign this summer was 27-year-old striker Abel Hernandez.

The Uruguayan recovered from a ruptured Achilles suffered in Hull’s third game of the season last year to finish the season with eight goals from just 10 matches. Hernandez’s contract with Hull ends at the end of June this summer and with Leeds on the lookout for a goalscorer, they will surely be looking to bring him to Elland Road.
