Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has joked that his team can ‘sit back and watch Sheffield United get beat’ on Wednesday providing that they win away at Preston North And on Tuesday night.
Leeds lost to Birmingham City at the weekend, which was a result that saw them drop to third, one point off second-placed Sheffield United.
The Blades are in action away at Birmingham on Wednesday, 24 hours after Leeds will attempt to return to winning ways.
It would be fair to say that Phillips’ words have not gone down well with the Leeds supporters, however, with a number taking to social media to criticise the midfielder.
The comments were quite strange ahead of what is a huge match and it leaves the Whites open to ridicule if they were to suffer another defeat at Preston.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the unhappy Leeds fans can be viewed below:
I know it was said tongue in cheek but all our players should keep quiet now and concentrate on their own perfomances . Especially after Sat’s lack lustre display . We need to see more fire and more desire with more chances created and shots on goal . #LUFC

Don’t say it like that Phil, that’s just gonna motivate their players.. Which they won’t need as I’m sure brum will put in a qpr vs Norwich style “performance” and Preston will play like we’ve got their families hostage.

Ridiculous thing to say. PR should be advising them what to say. Really wish our players wouldn’t speak to the press ?

Silly words Kalvin. Their team talk done.

Do we really need to give folk anymore reasons to laugh at us ??

What a stupid quote. Best performance for ages apparently. Won’t be repeated Wednesday. This is the week we look back and say we imploded.
