Transfer Focus: Leeds should be encouraged by Kent update

According to reports from LeedsLive, Ryan Kent is open to a move to Leeds United this summer despite interest from elsewhere.

Aston Villa and Rangers are also keen on the Liverpool youngster, but the 22-year-old would seemingly be keen to spend a season at Elland Road.

What’s the story?

It has been widely reported that the Whites are interested in the winger, but that move looks far more likely after this latest update.

The Liverpool man’s stock is high after an impressive season at Rangers, and he has attracted interest from multiple clubs.

For Leeds to beat both Aston Villa and Rangers to any signing is a massive thing. The Midlands club have just sealed their return to the Premier League, while Steven Gerrard’s side are Europa League-bound and Kent has already spent a season there.

The fact that the Yorkshire club are once again an alluring target for any young talent must be seen as a huge positive.

The Whites are undoubtedly one of the most historic and prestigious clubs in the country, but for young players coming through they hadn’t been viewed as an appealing option due to their inability to challenge near the top of the Championship.

The arrival of Marcelo Bielsa changed everything though. A third-place finish and the development of young players has seen Elland Road once again become an attractive destination for any footballer looking for a move.

Of course, Leeds are still a long way off challenging the top six sides as they did in the early 2000s, but if Kent chooses the Yorkshire club over Aston Villa or Rangers, then it is certainly a step in the right direction.
