Leeds United fans on Twitter have been slamming Stuart Attwell after his disaster of a refereeing performance at Elland Road on Sunday.
The clash between the Whites and their fellow playoff contenders Aston Villa was one of the most heated games of the season, and Attwell struggled to deal with the feisty nature of the clash.
Supporters of the Yorkshire club have commented on his lack of ability to control the game and his failure to spot alleged simulation from Jack Grealish.
In all fairness to the referee he didn’t have the easiest job – a brawl broke out after Leeds’ opening goal due to its controversial nature and he had to hand out one red card and five yellows in a game that proved almost impossible to officiate.
Attwell utterly lost control early on and the controversy after the goal didn’t help matters either.
Despite being an established Premier League official the 36-year-old looked out of his depth when officiating at Elland Road.
Here’s what Leeds fans have been saying on Twitter…
You’re underestimating the incompetence of Atwell

It’s a tough job but Stuart Attwell was utterly inept yesterday and not just against Leeds.

Atwell was a disgrace yesterday….one of the worst performances in living memory, and we’ve seen a few.Henry Winter said he had been demoted to the championship as such….to rebuild his confidence

Somehow it’s been swept under the carpet, but that refereeing performance was one of the most disgraceful and most biased I’ve ever seen @EFL ! Coopers card, blows up on #LUFC attack before half-time, blows up whenever Grealish is walked past.
Should Atwell be demoted?

Well. That was different afterrnon with #lufc. Stuart Attwell should never ref a game again.

Congrats to Attwell. In a season of exceptionally bad refereeing he produced possibly the worst performance so far. Hilarious game though.
