The 50-cap USA international has made 144 Premier League appearances for the Birmingham outfit, holding down the club’s No.1 berth for three straight seasons.
But the 31-year-old came under criticism last season as Villa suffered relegation to the Championship, conceding the most goals of any side in the top flight.
Guzan is now deemed surplus to requirements at Villa Park and will reportedly be allowed to leave on a free transfer, despite his contract not expiring until the end of next season.
Newly promoted Middlesbrough have been heavily linked with the 6 foot 4 shot-stopper this month and according to The Evening Gazette, he’s now expected to complete a Riverside move by the end of the week.
Coincidentally enough, Guzan could even make his Boro debut at Villa Park, with Aitor Karanka’s side facing the Villains in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
