As we approach the midway point of the domestic season, it is a good time to assess the summer signings.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis had plenty of work to do in the transfer window following the departures of some key players.

One of the club's new recruits was Paddy McNair, who signed for the Championship outfit from Sunderland for a fee in the region of £5m.

So far this season the Northern Ireland international, who has 21 caps to his name, has made 10 appearances in all competitions.

McNair has had to settle for a bit-part role so far as he is yet to play a full 90 minutes in a league game for Boro.

In fact, the former Manchester United graduate has spent only 169 minutes on the pitch during the Championship campaign.

McNair has played as a defensive midfielder, as well as on the right side of the park, but he is struggling to make an impact in Boro's promotion chase.

With that in mind, did the club make a mistake in signing the young player?
