According to BristolLive, Middlesbrough have agreed a deal with Bristol City for central defender Aden Flint, with the 28-year-old now heading for the Riverside Stadium.

What's the story?

It is expected to be a busy summer transfer window for Boro, and they announced the signing of Paddy McNair from Sunderland on Tuesday after winning the race for the Northern Ireland international.

According to BristolLive, Flint is now heading for the Riverside Stadium, with Boro agreeing a deal in the region of £7m for the centre-back.

A number of clubs were reportedly interested in Flint, but Sky Sports News have claimed that he has already undergone a medical with Boro, meaning that a deal is extremely close.

Brighton & Hove Albion are said to have been keen on signing the defender during the January transfer window, but Bristol City turned down a bid from the Premier League club at the mid-point of the season.

What will Flint bring to Middlesbrough?

Well, aside from the fact that he is a towering centre-back, Flint has incredibly scored 36 times in 202 league appearances for Bristol City - including 15 during the 2014-15 campaign.

The 6ft 6in central defender also managed eight Championship goals last season, and will prove invaluable to Boro in both penalty boxes next season.

Tony Pulis led the club into the Championship playoffs last season, but they fell in the semi-finals.

Adama Traore has been strongly linked with a move away from the Riverside Stadium this summer, but the arrival of McNair sent out a strong message, and Flint has the potential to turn Boro into Championship title winners next season.

There is no question that Pulis' presence at Boro carries a lot of weight, and Flint will now have the stage to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Boro will certainly feel that they are a top-tier club simply playing Championship football, and Pulis is slowly but surely putting together a very impressive squad of players.
