Middlesbrough would have fancied their chances of making the semi-finals of the EFL Cup when they were drawn at home to Burton Albion in the quarter-finals.

However, on-loan Southampton midfielder Jake Hesketh scored the only goal of the match at the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night as Burton progressed courtesy of a 1-0 success.

It would be fair to say that the result has not gone down too well with the Boro supporters, and many have called for head coach Tony Pulis to be sacked following the loss.

Boro are still sixth in the Championship table, but have now lost three of their last five matches in all competitions, including league defeats to Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers.

It seems unlikely that the loss to Burton will end Pulis' tenure, but that is exactly what the Boro supporters have called for on social media.
