According to Sky Sports News, Burnley have made a £12m bid for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson as they look to seal a deal ahead of the closing of the transfer window.

Gibson has been linked with a number of clubs since the end of last season, and Boro are expected to lose him before the window slams shut on August 9.

The 25-year-old only signed a new five-year contract at the Riverside Stadium last term, however, which means that Boro are in a strong position to negotiate.

Burnley are believed to have made an offer of £12m, and the Boro fans have been reacting to the news on social media.

The general consensus is that the club should not be accepting an offer of that value for the 6ft 1in centre-back, although there are those that have offered a solution - Clarets forward Sam Vokes in a straight swap deal.

Boro have every right to hold out for the best possible price, and their club's supporters have laughed off the bid from Burnley.
