According to The Northern Echo, Middlesbrough have withdrawn their interest in Sunderland midfielder Paddy McNair.

Boro are believed to have had an offer in excess of £5m accepted by the Black Cats, who were relegated to League One at the end of last season.

However, it is understood that Tony Pulis' side became frustrated when discussing personal terms with McNair's representatives.

Indeed, it has been reported that the Northern Ireland international's agents have also been holding talks with Brighton & Hove Albion and Stoke City in order to secure the best possible deal for their client.

Boro are seemingly not prepared to convince McNair to join them, and last season's Championship playoff semi-finalists appear to have pulled out of the race for the 23-year-old, who scored five times in 16 league appearances for the Black Cats last term.
