Well, they’ve finally done it – Middlesbrough have their first win of the season at the fourth time of asking.
The optimism surrounding the return of Boro favourite Jonathan Woodgate, who was appointed as manager in June on a three-year deal, was put on hold as his side stumbled through three uninspiring performances.
They looked remarkably less effective than they were under a certain Welshman by the name of Tony Pulis, who gathered seven points in the same period of time at the beginning of the campaign he was disposed of (albeit employing a particular brand of football).

Despite this worrying statistic, however, with Boro finally picking up their first three points, things could finally be starting to look up.
Fortunately with the aid of social media, we no longer need to immerse ourselves in smoky local pubs to get the lowdown from fans.
So, with the help of Twitter, we can today bring you the reactions to Daniel Ayala’s performance in Boro’s 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night…

Shotton and Ayala were good tonight but neither can pass a ball, Bola’s scared to go forward and Browne was shocking but who cares we actually won a game up the boro

3 points but the less said the better really. Ayala probably the only plus. #boro

Boro fans are so easy to slate Shotton but I think they should have a closer look at Ayala ??♂️

Ayala is a massive liability. If boro’s recruitment team decide to be useful in January I’d definitely replace both Ayala and Shotton if I were them

Ayala, motm for me, very strong ?

Says it all really, but it’s a first win and hopefully that will breed confidence ? #utb

We think it’s fair to say that Ayala has divided opinion.
