According to TEAMtalk, Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis wants to bring Southampton defender Sam McQueen to the Riverside Stadium this summer.
Pulis has already been busy in this summer’s transfer window, with Paddy McNair and Aden Flint making the move to the club ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.
There is still plenty of money to spend, however, and according to TEAMtalk, Boro want to sign McQueen in this summer’s transfer window.
The 23-year-old came through the youth system at Southampton, and has made 28 appearances for the Saints in all competitions.
McQueen actually made 20 appearances during the 2016-17 season, but featured in just six Premier League matches last term, and is believed to be keen to move on this summer.
Pulis is believed to have already approached Southampton over a move for McQueen, and the Championship club will be in a strong position when considering that Ben Gibson has been linked with a return to the Premier League.
A number of Premier League clubs have been credited with an interest in Gibson, who was once again impressive for Boro last term.
It would be a surprise if the central defender did not leave the Riverside Stadium this summer, and Boro may well look to use Southampton’s interest in Gibson in order to secure a deal for McQueen ahead of the start of the Championship season.
Southampton are not messing around this summer as head coach Mark Hughes looks to improve his squad, and it is unlikely that the Welshman would have many reservations when it comes to selling McQueen.
As a result, Boro could seal the signature of yet another transfer target, whilst ensuring that they receive the best possible deal for Gibson.
This particular deal is certainly one that would suit all parties involved.
