Middlesbrough should try to sign West Bromwich Albion’s Burke instead of Curtis

Middlesbrough should switch their attention to West Bromwich Albion outcast Oliver Burke after Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis ruled out a move away from Fratton Park.

What’s the word?

Tony Pulis’s side have promotion firmly in their sights and they remain in the hunt.

At the moment Boro sit third in the Championship, two points adrift of leaders Sheffield United after 15 matches.

It is incredibly tight at the top as only four points separate first from sixth, and Boro are struggling slightly with creativity.

The team have only managed six goals from their last six league matches, which suggests that they could do with an attack-minded player in January.

According to TEAMtalk, Boro are a handful of clubs interested in signing Portsmouth starlet Ronan Curtis.

However, the winger tweeted on Tuesday night that he has no intention of leaving Fratton Park.

Perhaps Boro should move away from Curtis and take a look at West Brom outcast Burke.

Why him?

The 21-year-old has struggled to establish himself in Darren Moore’s team this season, despite the club dropping into the Championship.

Plenty of hype surrounded Burke when he moved to The Hawthorns from RB Leipzig in a £15m deal last year.

However, he has failed to earn opportunities having started just three games so far for the Baggies.

This season Burke has featured in the Championship once, but he has been impressing for the Under-21s by scoring three times in three outings.

Given his lack of game time, the youngster may be open to starting again elsewhere, particularly if Pulis can offer regular minutes.

There is a risk given that he is struggling to make it into the West Brom team but he will feel that he has something to prove, which can only benefit Boro if a deal is struck.
