Newcastle close in on Ecuadorian World Cup star

Newcastle are thrashing out a deal with Pachuca for Ecuadorian World Cup star Enner Valencia, according to reports from The Metro.

The 25-year-old striker has been one of his nation’s stars in Brazil so far, with his double against Honduras having put his nation in a good position to advance from their group heading into their last game.

Puchuca – a Mexican top tier side – are aware that they are unlikely to be able to hold onto their ace for much longer, which has prompted Newcastle to open talks.

Scouts from the Magpies have been watching him action of late as they plot to land a forward to help them cope with the loss of star loanee Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong.

Valencia is valued at around £7m, and has long been talked about as one of South American football’s top performers.

West Ham have also been linked with namesake of Manchester United and fellow Ecuador man Antonio, after being impressed by his 18 goals in 23 games last term for Pachuca.
