Star names questioning Newcastle future, says club icon

Ex-Newcastle hero David Ginola believes that Yohan Cabaye’s January exit could lead to a number of the club’s other star players questioning their futures.

The French playmaker completed a £19m return to his homeland late last week to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Cabaye was the focal point of the Magpies’ midfield, and also a key character within the squad off the field.

As well as this he was an extremely talented individual, and now Ginola feels that players within the set-up may be pondering their own time at St James’ Park:

“Newcastle really needed him as a player. He was the biggest asset in the team for Alan Pardew.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.

“They’ve got £19m in the bank but they are without him or a replacement. It’s very strange and it sends off a strong message of a lack of ambition.

“The other French players will be saying ‘we are fighting for the club, every day in training, every game and you are selling Yohan’.

“I think about players like Loic Remy and Yoan Gouffran. They will be devastated and think they’re at a club with a lack of ambition.

“It’ll be difficult for them. They’ll wonder: Why am I staying at a club with no ambition at all?”

Newcastle attempted to bring in two Ligue 1 stars to replace their talisman, but failed with moves for the duo.

Monpellier’s Remy Cabella was initially their top target, but after a fruitless chase they switched their attention to Clement Grenier of Lyon – also a target for Arsenal.
