Swansea star not interested in Newcastle move

Swansea striker Wilfried Bony has no desire to join Newcastle this summer, according to his agent.

The Ivorian hit-man – who is currently away at the World Cup – has emerged as a target for the Magpies in recent weeks as the club set about life after Loic Remy – whose loan spell from QPR has now ended.

Alan Pardew is believed to be a fan of the powerful goal-getter, and even chased his signature, last year when he moved to England from Vitesse Arnhem.

Despite him having only been a Swans player for a little under 12 months, Bony is already being linked with a switch, but his agent, Dalibor Lacina, says that moving to Newcastle is not an option for his client after the Tynesiders opted out of snapping him up in 2013:

“We have a certain strategy. Bony is in a totally different place to Newcastle and wants to move to a club with ambition.” He told the Shields Gazette.

“I spoke to Newcastle about Bony last summer. Newcastle should have bought Bony a year ago but they didn’t believe in him.

“They could have signed him for £10m, but they said they weren’t sure if he was good enough, that he was only playing in Holland.”

Lacina went on to say that Bony will only leave Swansea for a top club:

“The next step for Bony is a top-six team in England or a top team in Germany, Spain or France, or he will stay with Swansea.”
