Nottingham Forest are interested in swooping for Middlesbrough left-back Fabio, according to The Nottingham Post.
Aitor Karanka is in the market for a new left-back following the departure of Eric Lichaj to Hull City.
The manager will be determined to launch a promotion bid this season, and in order to do that, he needs strength and depth.
A running theme during Forest’s transfer window seems to be the pursuit of Karanka’s former players.

Jose Mourinho’s former right-hand man has been linked to numerous Boro players, and another one has been added to the list.
According to the Nottingham Post, the Reds are working on a deal to bring Fabio to the City Ground.
Fabio was bought by Karanka at Boro in 2016, but under current manager Tony Pulis, the Brazilian has struggled for game time.
In fact, the 27-year-old, who won the Premier League title at former club Manchester United, made just 22 Championship appearances last season.
From the player’s point of view, the transfer seems like a no-brainer as he is likely going to receive more minutes on the pitch.
It feels like Fabio has been around forever, but he is only 27, therefore still has plenty to give.
Signing for Forest would give him the opportunity to shine again, and the club have the comfort of knowing that Karanka is already familiar with the left-back.
