Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter were full of praise for 35-year-old striker Daryl Murphy after his goal helped them beat Stoke 3-2 in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
Aitor Karanka’s side went ahead after just 19 minutes against their fellow Championship side when Ben Osborn broke in behind the Stoke defence and got lucky with a ricochet off keeper Adam Federici that bounced off the Forest man’s knee and into the net.
Five minutes before half-time, Murphy doubled their lead with a convincing finish after racing past the Stoke back four with an impressive turn of pace from the former Ireland international.

Winger Joe Lolley then made it 3-0 five minutes into the second half but with just over 10 minutes to go and with the scores at 3-1, Benfica loanee Diogo Goncalves was shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Tom Edwards.
Despite conceding again though Aitor Karanka’s side held on for the win, and many fans on Twitter were pleased with Murphy’s performance. Check out the best tweets below.
Daryl Murphy will be a big asset to us this season IF he is used wisely and more sparingly. Starting him in majority of games will wear out any 35 year old. If Karanka uses Murphy selectively, he can thrive. #nffc #CarabaoCup https://t.co/zW59e26FhP

Got to give credit to Daryl Murphy, after everything he’s been through last season he’s really turned himself around. Fair play to the lad, would be happy to see him start on Saturday #NFFC

Daryl Murphy deserves a lot of credit. I thought he had given up months ago but there is life in the old dog yet! Superb tonight. Keep it up. Also Goncalves can feel more like he belongs whilst he sits a couple of games out. Lots of good performances though. #nffc
