Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter were disappointed that that the club failed to sign a new striker on the loan deadline day after letting Greek striker Apostolos Vellios leave on a temporary deal to Belgian side Waasland-Beveren.
Manager Aitor Karanka had already allowed youngster Ben Brereton to join Blackburn in a deal that could be worth up to £7m after an initial loan period, according to the BBC.
Forest were extremely busy in the summer window, making an incredible 14 new signings and breaking their transfer record with the £13.2m capture of attacking midfielder Joao Carvalho from Benfica.
However, the Nottingham Post had reported earlier in the week that the club were keen to sign another striker following England U19 international Brereton’s move away from the City Ground, but none had materialised as the deadline passed.
Forest fans on Twitter were not happy with Karanka and the Reds seem to now be left with just Lewis Grabban, who is currently injured, and Daryl Murphy as recognised strikers. Check out the pick of the tweets below.
Selling Brereton for £7m I can just about get my head around. Selling our third striker (out of three) and not replacing him I can’t. #NFFC

Wow,I can’t believe nffc have let brereton, vellios and clough all go without bringing in a replacement striker.weve just experienced grabban being injured only leaving Murphy as a striker.what happens if both get injured now?absolutely shocking imo #nffc

Any decent free agent strikers #NFFC can look at? Who’s out there in the football wastelands? Must be someone.

If Karanka was that happy with his current forward options, we wouldn't have been chasing the names suggested. I'm disappointed and think we lack the quality striker needed. Hope I'm wrong #nffc

Why we haven’t signed another striker is beyond me!? Hindsight calling…. #nffc
