Nottingham Forest lost 2-1 away to Brentford on Saturday and that was the clue for a number of fans on Twitter to call for manager Aitor Karanka to be sacked.
Karanka has been in charge at Forest since January this year and spent big money over the summer. The Reds splashed out over £20m on a total of 14 new players during the transfer window, with the £13.2m capture of Joao Carvalho from Benfica becoming the club’s new record signing.
Forest were actually unbeaten in the league before the trip to Brentford but had drawn four games and only won one. The amount of money spent and the Spanish boss’ tendency to set his team up in a more defensive system is now certainly beginning to cause some unrest among Forest fans.
The Reds now sit in 14th place in the Championship table with just seven points from their first six matches of the campaign.
However, Karanka’s best moment as Forest boss was perhaps last week’s 3-1 win over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup so it is unlikely that the board will make any changes just yet. Check out some of the best tweets from Forest fans calling for their manager to be sacked.
Bye Karanka. You have ruined Forest. #nffc

Lampard has managed 4 wins in 6 league games with #DCFC, while Karanka has managed 5 wins in 25 with #NFFC with no real consistent signs of improvement. I’m all for giving a manager time, but how much more time does Aitor get? He has a 12.5% league win rate, McLeish had 14.29%

Karanka has won 7 out of 30 games despite signing 25 players and spending more than any #nffc manager ever. This isn’t good. It’s fine and totally reasonable for people to be unhappy about it.

I hate to say it but i dont think Karanka will survive the season. I really want him to work out, but i just cant see it. With the kind of investment he has had, would the board accept performances like yesterday? I doubt it #NFFC

If the players are all to blame and not Karanka, I’d like to know how 22 players, no matter who they are and who we sign all turn out to be rubbish? #nffc

Are people defending karanka out of hope at this stage or do people actually think he’s done a good job so far? Maybe he’ll get time but you can’t say he’s earned it, I don’t think. One narrow victory against possibly the worst side in the division #nffc
