According to The Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest are one of a number of clubs interested in signing free-agent Yasin Ben El-Mhanni after the winger left Newcastle this summer.
The Daily Mail report that the 22-year-old is wanted by Watford, Wolves and Leeds in England, as well as Lazio, Besiktas and Portuguese sides Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
He left Newcastle after making a complaint against the U23 coach Peter Beardsley over bullying and discrimination, which was upheld by an independent panel.
Before that, he had only appeared twice for Newcastle’s first team in the FA Cup and had spent most of his time at the club with the U23’s.
The Englishman originally joined the club from non-league side Lewes after his YouTube videos caught the eye of a number of top clubs including Chelsea, where he scored on his debut for the reserve team.
However, with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis spending big this summer in a bid to push the club back to the top-flight of English football, El-Mhanni would be out of his depth in a squad full of quality.
Thanks to manager Aitor Karanka’s relationship with super agent Jorge Mendes, the Reds have signed some top talent that includes João Carvalho and Diogo Gonçalves from Benfica.
A better signing for Karanka’s squad would be Manchester City starlet Brahim Díaz. The 18-year-old made five appearances for City’s first team last season so Pep Guardiola clearly rates him highly, although it may be better for his development if he is loaned out next season.
The Spanish manager was appointed in January this year and has been backed by his owner in the transfer market to build his own squad in the hope that Forest can improve on their 17th place finish last season. Díaz would be a welcome addition who could offer cover to some of the stars heading to the City Ground this summer.
